Australian Harp Fest
A celebration of Australian talent, the modern harp and collaborative practice
Australian Harp Fest is an initiative by Katia Mestrovic, supported by Creative Australia, involving upwards of 30 Australian artists. The project aims to promote Australian composition (especially by harpist-composers) and showcase the diversity of the modern harp. Through Australian Harp Fest, Katia is fostering a creative and supportive Australian harp community and creating opportunities for fellow harpists in Australia. The project will culminate in a collective album release in September 2027, with a national tour.
The project involves national and international performances of Australian music. This has included the commission, premiere and recording of three new works: a harp solo by Paul Nicolaou, a harp duet by Stuart Greenbaum, and an amplified harp duet with electronics and video by K. Mestrovic.
Another notable achievement is the arrangement and premiere of 7 harp ensemble works, with select works to be recorded:
Greenpath by Christopher Larkin - from orchestral score to harp trio
Fire Tree by Natalia Mann - from harp solo to harp trio
Oshun Beneath the Veil by Mary Doumany - from harp septet to harp trio
Ἠλέκτρα/Electra by Katia Mestrovic - from harp quintet to harp trio
Sunrise by Katia Mestrovic - retitled from “Luminescence” (a marimba and harp duet)
